What is the Manchester Anthology?
The Manchester Anthology is a collection of poetry and prose written by students of the Manchester Centre for New Writing. From a tragic tale of the loss of a child to fantastical journeys through weird new worlds, these pieces span genre and style, encapsulating the diverse voices and skills of the contributors. Each poet and author offers a unique and captivating glimpse of their work, unified by their love for and dedication to their craft.
Who are the Authors?
Twenty five MA students from the University of Manchester’s Centre for New Writing have contributed to the anthology. Their work ranges from poetry to prose, from literary to fantasy.
Were Contributors Paid?
We were not paid for our contributions, and we didn’t pay to be a part of the anthology. It is a not-for-profit project funded by the Centre for New Writing.
Who Created the Anthology?
All work was created by students at the Centre for New Writing, and students have organised every stage of the anthology’s production, from initial mind-maps to the launch event.
If you were to ask every contributor to the anthology their reasons for taking part, you’d likely get twenty-five different answers, but we are all united by a passion for our craft.
Some of us came straight to the Centre for New Writing’s Creative Writing MA from undergraduate degrees, others, after a long break from formal study. Our cohort’s backgrounds range from teachers to bartenders. Some of us were born here in Manchester, others come from many different parts of the world.
